In the next few weeks, all the carriers will complete their 2008 pricing announcements. As we look at the future, it’s probably a good bet that these carriers’ rates aren’t going down any more than the cost of oil. So what’s the impact and action plan for your business? Given the size of the increases that have been announced so far, multichannel companies need to look at all the options open to them and develop short and long-term strategies to reduce the impact.

UPS has announced that they will be increasing Ground rates by 4.9% in 2008, which is equal to last year. (FedEx will most likely match the UPS Ground increase, but that information has not yet been released.) Under new rates, the Ground commercial zone 2, 1-lb. rate has increased 5.0% over last year—overall, a 16% increase over three years, from $3.62 in 2005 to $4.20 in 2008. For 1-70 lb. packages the average increase is 4.8%. However, if the majority of your shipments are in zones 4 or 5 –like many businesses are- the increase is about 5.16%. Depending on your warehouse location and the predominant zones in which you ship to customers, the impact could be more or less than this average. Meanwhile, the Ground residential minimum charge increased to $6.15, a combination of the base rate for zone 2 and the Ground residential surcharge. In a quick survey of shipping tables of 66 multichannel companies, we found that 71% of the tables were lower than this $6.15 minimum charge. Read the rest of this entry »

A vehicle is not just a vehicle, and our money does not grow on trees. Vehicle transportation can put you into a hectic situation if you are trying to do it by yourself. The best of this world is we can have someone do it all for us; no need to ‘Stop being lazy’! An auto shipping broker can do what we do not want to do; take care of it all, while we just rest on our laurels and pick which state of affairs that is best for our monetary and situational circumstances.

Of course we are talking about going to an auto transport broker. Someone to take care of all our car needs! Perfect, but what is Auto Shipping Broker anyway? Here it goes. A broker is the middleman who deals with a vast number of carriers so they can find you the most suitable vehicle carrier based on your budget and, of course, convenience. A broker will most likely find you the best price when you contract through them versus dealing with the auto shipping companies. The broker does not ship your vehicle for you. Instead they have the right to use a vast network of carriers and with this have the absolute leverage in finding the right shipping service to send your vehicle in the accurate direction with an open spot. This can be incredibly useful when you consider the slim openings that are often available to the single customer. Auto shipping services usually transport your vehicle on a specific route with a definite schedule; working with a broker you have more options. Read the rest of this entry »

Auto shipping may seem like a gigantic task, but if you know what to do beforehand, you should be able to pull it off rather easily.

With auto transport, one of the major hassles you have to deal with is preparing the car before it’s shipped. First, you must wash the car well, even if it’s going to be shipped on an open trailer. This will make it easier to identify any chips, dings, or damage that occurs en route, if it occurs. The next rule of car shipping is to take all personal items out of the vehicle. You don’t want to leave anything behind while the car is traveling to its destination.

Make sure the car alarm is disabled and ensure that the gas tank isn’t full. It’s recommended to keep the tank between 1/8 and 1/4 full so that the car weighs as little as possible. With car transport, the weight may affect the price, so keep this in mind when preparing the car.

Remove or secure anything in the car that can come loose, such as ground effects, spoilers, and fog lights. Wide mirrors should be folded back, and move antennae out of the way as well. With auto transport, the more that stays out of the way, the better. Read the rest of this entry »

There are many reasons why you need a car shipping service. For example, you are migrating to another part of the country or overseas, you brought a car from ebay motors and need it shipped to you or maybe you are going on a vacation and decide to bring your car along with you.

Nowadays, there are plenty of car shipping companies that provide different options for shipping a car. The prices also varies due to distance, mode of transportation and accessibility as well.

The two most common car shipping options are getting someone to drive it for you or transporting your vehicle via a large car carrier truck.

There are pros and cons to both methods of car transportation.

Method 1 : Getting someone to drive it for you

There are some shipping companies who can provide people to help drive your car to your destination. The cost will depend on the distance. Usually, the cost of petrol will be included in the shipping fee but calculated on a per mile basis. Reputable car shipping companies will also have car insurance policy in the event the car is damaged or met with an accident during the journey. Read the rest of this entry »

When it comes to shipping cars, the equipment that your shipper uses is important. In fact, the the truck and trailer that they use can make all of the difference in their reliability and dependability. Without a decent truck they may be prone to breakdowns that cause delays in your auto shipping jobs. If the trailer they use is a mess, there is a greater chance of damage to your vehicle.
To help you better understand car moving equipment, let’s take a brief look at the importance of both the truck and trailer.

The Car Mover and Their Truck

Obviously an important part of the car mover’s equipment is the truck they use to pull all of those vehicles across the country. A reputable company will keep a fairly new truck (not necessarily brand new as these trucks are expensive), but they will have their truck well maintained. Regular maintenance to a rig is important. The condition of a mover’s truck is actually a good indication of the overall health of their business. Those that car about what they do will car about their truck as well. The car mover that drives up in an old beat-up rig, is likely inexperienced, or would rather be doing something else.

At Hunsky’s, for our main truck, we have a 2002 Peterbilt with a sleeper. Our truck is always well maintained, and it still looks like it did when it was new.

Changing addresses is not that easy. You would have to move your things from your current location to the next, and you would have to be very careful when you this.

Problem exists when you would transfer to a new location that is thousands of miles away from your current one. There would be numerous moving companies you could hire for the purpose, but they can only cover home appliances and furniture.

Your car would be a problem, for sure. Since it is large, it would not fit into any of the trucks of the house moving company. To do the job, you would have to contact a car moving firm.

Because car moving is not a usual transaction, there are just a handful of car moving companies around. Because the number is not that large, you would surely have a few difficulties hiring a good car moving company. Read the rest of this entry »
