Shipping your vehicle, for a first time auto shipper, can be a bit of a chore. There are however some steps that you can take to make your auto sipping experience run much smoother. Shipping a car or truck can be fast and easy if you follow these simple steps:

Make sure that your car is clean. This will help you and the shipping company easily inspect the car together to note any existing damage on the car. Knowing the exact condition of the car at pick up is important. This will make the final inspection run much more smoothly.

Check to see that your car is running properly. This means that the car is in working condition and that the battery has a charge. There may be reason for your auto transporter to move your vehicle from one place to another. While they will likely have a means other than the cars own power to do this, it is easiest if the car runs. If your car does not run make sure to notify your shipper before pick up. If a person has Exotic car he/she will think twice before parking it in the garage at home. He wants to keep it away from dents, scratches. He is very concerned about his car because it is very expensive. He does not allow anybody to lay a hand on it. But in certain circumstances when you have to move overseas you have to handle your car to a car transport company.

To ship an exotic car, you cannot go in for a cheap option. Choose a company that has certain years of experience in shipping an exotic car. This is very important because you cannot hand over your car to a company who has just entered this business. Once you have selected your auto transport company just check out if you want an enclosed carrier or open one. An enclosed carrier would be a better choice because your exotic car will be protected from certain elements like sun, heat, rain, snow etc.

Before shipping your car, just check out with the auto transport company that it is being insured. If anything happens to your car while it is in transit you can claim for the damages from them. Do check they have an insurance certificate. You can visit even their insurance agent and collect information as to how much they will be paid if anything happens to their car.

Shipping an exotic car may be a stressful work. So it would be advisable that you note down if there are any damages before shipping your car. Do take some photographs for future reference. Before shipping your exotic car do keep certain things in mind: Read the rest of this entry »

People who have shipped an item anywhere in the world know that costs often vary per shipment, but just how are these costs applied?

Well, international shipping rates have many determining factors and rates of calculation. Below are a few of the ways in which a parcel or freight handling service will calculate these international mailing rates.

1. Weight of shipment – An item’s weight will greatly determine the cost of sending it to it’s target destination. Defining this shipping weight is a rather simple process that combines mass properties with the height of the item. Most shipping services use a scale that automatically determines these factors. Crated items are of course, assessed a bit differently. These items are priced by determining the length, weight and height of the property (L x W x H). On other words, it is appraised by total cubic meters as well as the weight. An individual can also choose to have their shipment placed on a pallet instead of a crate. Pallets are generally calculated based on “load”. For example—is it less than a truck load (LTL) or less than a (plastic) container load (LCL). In the end, the manner and method in which you choose to ship an item will depend on what it is and how much you can reasonably spend to ship it.

2. Target location and shipping address – international shipping rates are also classified by the destination of the parcel. It may cost far more to ship to Singapore than it would to ship an item to Quebec. Again, dimensional weight and height are factored into the overall costs when considering location; however travel difficulty and distance can factor into pricing as well. When considering shipping your item, try to research the location that you intend to ship to so you can understand a bit more about how the international mailing rates are applied. We are often pretty sensitive about the appearance of our car, as a person’s car is implicitly linked to his social status and reputation. Everyone likes stylish, stunning, and organized vehicles. Although, we can spend luxuriously on the style and looks of our vehicles, and make them truly captivating, but its tidiness requires some conscious efforts from our part.

We can keep our vehicle clean and organized by taking some small yet valuable measures. We generally leave everything to mechanics and service stations, with a presumption that these would take good care of our vehicles. Despite, all their hard work, we often feel unsatisfied with our vehicles’ looks as well as performance.

This happens largely due to our carelessness in proper maintenance of vehicles. A little effort from our part can delay our vehicle’s frequent visits to service stations, and thereby helps in increasing its life remarkably. In order to keep your car organized and tidy, just add few important things in it, these are: Read the rest of this entry »

Handling a property damage and/or personal injury (motor vehicle) claim yourself is a simple and routine procedure for ordinary individuals to process on their own ! The vast majority of motor vehicle accident claims require no specialized expertise which allows one to successfully settle it.

There are five characteristics found which makes them easy for one to undertake without handing their case to a lawyer:

#1. The vast majority of them are “Ordinary” in character.

#2. By and large they don’t involve serious injuries.

#3. More often than not (in comparison to the 10 to 15 percent that do) their are relatively low financial stakes and also minor economic losses involved.

#4. They’re processed by the insurance company (who will ultimately be responsible for a payment to be made) in a highly routine, assembly-line format.

#5. Both parties are ordinary citizens (rather than institutions) and demand no specific expertise to undertake. Read the rest of this entry »

Car accidents tend to happen for three reasons: natural disasters, driver error and car defects that make the car act in an unpredictable fashion. For the first two, there is really nothing that can be done. However, for car defects, manufacturers release safety recalls on vehicles when defects are detected.

These recalls can come from two different sources: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the vehicle manufacturer. They are usually instigated as a result of an awareness of a defective component in the vehicle that can cause safety issues for the people who own the car.

Recalls due to defects follow certain procedures in order to get the car returned to the dealer or by having the owner take the car to an authorized dealer to have the problem corrected. If cars have defects that are known by the company and they aren’t recalled, then there is a chance for law suits due to accidents that would otherwise not have happened.

The manufacturer of the product is ultimately responsible and should file a public report on all defects detected in their vehicle including any safety related defects, a method to remedy the defect, non-compliance with Federal motor vehicle office standards and a schedule of the recall.

When a defect reaches the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it conducts an investigation and administers the safety recalls in order to improve overall safety on roadways. The NHTSA is an authorized agency which can order car manufacturers to both recall and repair vehicles or items connected to vehicles that can prove hazardous on the road. The investigations are conducted by The Office of Defects Investigation or ODI and they will investigate and indicate serious safety defects in vehicle designs and construction.

The ODI also is in charge of monitoring manufacturers recall campaigns and carefully reviews consumer complaints and any other available data in order to determine if there is a defect trend and instigate a recall if one appears. Recall information includes vehicle campaigns that have occurred from 1966 to present. These campaigns involve motor vehicle products that contain a safety-related defect or have non-compliance issues with the federal motor vehicle safety standards.

There is an online form to report any safety-related defects or problems that may occur with your vehicle located at http://odi.nhtsa.dot.gov. This site also has a search engine so that a consumer can search for recall data on a specific make of car, tire or child restraint alerts and recalls.

Car safety recalls are extremely important in lessening the deaths due to vehicle failure. There are approximately 42,000 deaths annually on our Nation’s roads with traffic crashes with the number one reason for death in people under the age of 34.

Motor vehicle safety is partly due to the fact that most manufacturers will issue voluntary recalls. If they don’t the NHTSA will investigate car accident trends and order via the court system for manufacturers to issue them. When these recalls are instigated, it is the manufacturers’ responsibility to remedy the situation at no charge to the owner.
