If you are taking a vaction, or you want to go on a road trip, it is likely that you will need to have your car or truck shipped. Many people choose to test the quality of their vehicles by taking them on extended road trips. It should be noted that attempting to drive a vehicle across country that is older than 10 years can be risky. It is also important to make sure the car is checked. There are a number of ways your car can be shipped to you, and the prices may vary depending on the distance. When your car is shipped, it can be transported by a larger vehicle, or someone can drive it for you.

There are a number of advantages and disadvantages to both methods. If you look under the road section of your local newspaper, you will often find individuals or companies that can drive your vehicle across country. The driver will basically drive the car for you, and you will authorize them to use the vehicle, and in some cases, you may have to pay them for the cost of gasoline. Many people don’t like using this option, because they don’t like the idea of giving control of their vehicle to someone they don’t know. However, this option is the cheapest, but it should only be used by reputable companies that have a proven track record. If you decide to let someone drive your car, do a criminal background check and make sure they don’t have any driving violations. Read the rest of this entry »

A vehicle is not just a vehicle, and our money does not grow on trees. Vehicle transportation can put you into a hectic situation if you are trying to do it by yourself. The best of this world is we can have someone do it all for us; no need to ‘Stop being lazy’! An auto shipping broker can do what we do not want to do; take care of it all, while we just rest on our laurels and pick which state of affairs that is best for our monetary and situational circumstances.

Of course we are talking about going to an auto transport broker. Someone to take care of all our car needs! Perfect, but what is Auto Shipping Broker anyway? Here it goes. A broker is the middleman who deals with a vast number of carriers so they can find you the most suitable vehicle carrier based on your budget and, of course, convenience. A broker will most likely find you the best price when you contract through them versus dealing with the auto shipping companies. The broker does not ship your vehicle for you. Instead they have the right to use a vast network of carriers and with this have the absolute leverage in finding the right shipping service to send your vehicle in the accurate direction with an open spot. This can be incredibly useful when you consider the slim openings that are often available to the single customer. Auto shipping services usually transport your vehicle on a specific route with a definite schedule; working with a broker you have more options. Read the rest of this entry »

It is always best to have the car washed before getting it shipped. Remove any personal items, valuable or not, to avoid losses while the car is being transported. Since the weight of the car is one of the considerations on appraising the cost, remove any accessory that only adds up to the weight. Having the gas tank almost empty will also save up on the shipping cost. The alarm system should also be de-activated to save on the battery life. Make sure to have a spare set of keys when the vehicle is surrendered for shipment.

Insurance
Study well the insurance offered by the shipping company in order to be assured that any loss or damage to the vehicle throughout the transport will be covered. Secure a copy of the insurance policy before handing over the vehicle to the company.

Inspection
The company’s inspector must do a thorough inspection of the vehicle prior to the transport. The status of the car as well as all damages noted during the pre-transport inspection must be documented in what is called a Bill of Lading, a copy of which is given to the owner. Both the owner and the company representative must sign this. The owner must also talk to the company should there by any special arrangements needed for the vehicle. Upon the delivery to the destination, the vehicle must be re-examined for any new damage that might have occurred during the transport. If there is new damage, the owner must file an insurance claim within two weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

Let us face it. The car is a special item loved and treasured by the whole family. And when the occasion demands relocation, you are faced with the eternal and familiar dilemma. Should you drive it down to the destination or should you allow it to be transported? If the destination is close by, then driving down makes sense, but this may not be the case always. This is the time when you think of shipping your car.

If you are under the impression that auto moving is no big deal, since all it requires is to load it on to a large moving truck and the job is done, think again. Auto moving is a specialized industry and the moving company who is helping you with relocation of your personal belongings, may not be the ideal auto moving partner.

The first point to note in auto moving is that unlike moving companies which move household items, auto moving companies are fewer in numbers. Since you are faced with a limited option to begin with, your job to find the right auto moving company could take more time, effort and patience. Of course this too can be easy, provided you know how to get started and go through the process in the right manner.

The first sign of a bad car shipping company is when they rush you through the process. Such companies are desperate to lure customers and would agree to any schedule the customer wants. A good auto moving company on the other hand, usually takes time to plan, schedule and execute the auto moving. Such companies would ask you for a detailed plan, work out on some mutually-agreed upon alternative dates for shipment and make the right kind of arrangements for completing the entire transaction. These companies need a few weeks time frame to work things out. Remember pick up timings are impossible to be worked out within a 24 hour time frame. So if any company promises you such pick up times, try not to believe them. Companies in such rush may be avoided. Read the rest of this entry »

Making your car safe should be your number one priority. This vehicle holds you, your family – those you love and want to protect as much as you can. So, how do you make sure that your car is safe before a trip around town or even a trip across the country? Use these tips to ensure that your vehicle is as safe as possible:

Always wear your seat belt. Doing this will ensure that you are safe within the vehicle should anything happen. Did you know that seat belts are an essential part of being protected during an accident? Failing to wear your seat belt can not only put your life in danger, it can cost you money! Many times throughout the year people are pulled over and issued a ticket for failing to wear their seat belt – are you one of these people?

Before going for a trip check the tires. The air in the tires should be adequate (the appropriate level can be determined by reading the manual for the vehicle). When the air in the tires is off balance it leaves the vehicle susceptible to get into an accident, and can chance the traction that the vehicle has, impacting the ability of the tires to grip to the roads.

Did you know that a crack in the windshield can turn into much more? It is important to get these scratches and dings fixed as soon as possible before they put the vehicle in jeopardy. In cold weather, the glass can expand and lessen in size and create longer cracks. These cracks must be replaced before they get to this point, as than the windshield may have to be replaced.
